Network Installation

Network installation services are available for most SOHO (Small Office Home Office) applications; however certain restrictions apply.

Network Installation services include:

  1. Installation of network cables within the guidelines below. Cables are installed in the wall with existing telephone lines when possible; however some installations may require cables to be run along baseboards.

  2. Setup and configuration of network hubs and print servers.

  3. Installation and configuration of computer operating systems (both client and server if applicable).

  4. Installation and setup of application software (both client and server).

  5. Initial configuration of user accounts and security settings on all network machines.

Installation Restrictions:
Cabling -

  • Network cable installations are limited to 5 "drops" (locations) or less and all must be within the same building and on the same floor. Drops are the installation of cable into a ceiling or wall (following the path used by existing telephone cables) and ending at a receptacle. Cable installation for more than 5 drops, between floors, or requiring modification of the wall or ceiling structure will be referred to an installation service.

  • Cable installation is limited to Cat 5 (or other twisted-pair cable). Installations of fiber optic line will be charged an additional rate or may be referred to an installation service.
    * Cat 5 cable is a common standard used in most network applications.

  • Alternate forms of network communication (Wireless RF, Infrared, etc.) will be considered on an individual basis and may be referred to an installation service.

  • Cabling and installation of outside lines (T1, ISDN, DSL, telephone, etc.) and associated hardware (routers, CPE, etc.) will be referred to an installation specialist.
    * Normally, the provider of the line service will install the line and additional hardware as part of setting up the service. Ex. Phone company or Internet Service Provider.

Hardware Setup -

  • Setup of custom server hardware will be referred to an outside vendor. This includes the setup and configuration of servers with multi-drive RAID sets or other special hardware configurations.
    * Most server machines are pre-built and configured prior to shipping from the vendor.

Software Setup -

  • Installation and setup of network operating systems and applications is limited to Microsoft technologies. A common installation would include Windows NT (Server and/or Workstation) or Windows 2000 (Professional and/or Server), but earlier versions of Windows software may be utilized.
